Old Vines Wine Duo
$128.00
For Preludio’s 2nd Chapter we are exploring the relationship of Time and Wine. At different stages of the winemaking process, Time has a huge influence on the final bottle.
This month we are delving into how the age of the vine effects the grape it produces. After decades of maturing a vine stops producing the same amount of grapes, but the grapes it does produce have a complexity and concentration that makes them stand out. Ahhh the wisdom that comes with age!
Acheson Wines “Lodi Cabernet” 2016
Concentrated flavours and richness round out this juicy Cabernet. Along the central coast of California this vineyard was planted around the Gold Rush (the 1850s!!!) and there is plenty to discover in this new world red.
Domaine de la Milliere Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2015
This CNDP is made from the traditional blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault and Counoise. But it is the centenarian Cinsault grapes that make this wine stand out. Usually just a minor player bringing softness and bouquet to the blend, with this bottle it brings a beautiful femininity and makes it a truly food friendly CNDP. Much lighter and more aromatic than other bottles from this appellation but a wine all the better for it.
